Turbulent times for SLM
SLM
The SLM emphasized on Friday that flight operations to the various destinations are guaranteed, despite the current developments.
According to the company from Suriname, this means that the traveling public is normally transported according to the issued flight schedule.
All this with the promised support of the shareholder, namely the state.
Surinam Airways has recently been confronted with what is said in aviation jargon, 'heavy turbulence'.
In view of the current developments within the company, several investigations have been ordered by the government and the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
VAT Tax
Minister Armand Achaibersing of Finance & Planning has just informed the National Assembly that the government is prepared to raise the rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) to 10%.
Achaibersing argued that the policy goals cannot be achieved with a rate of 5%. This came in response to various organizations pushing for a 5% rate given the economic conditions in the country.
In the region, the rate is between 10% and 17.5%.
